Why Learn Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel?

Microsoft Excel can do much more than store names and numbers.

When properly applied, Excel can help you organise records, clean datasets, summarise information, identify patterns, create visual reports, and communicate findings that support better decisions.

For a corps member, these capabilities can be useful across administration, finance, sales, research, NGOs, education, business, public-sector reporting and several entry-level professional roles.

This programme therefore focuses on practical Excel-based data analysis, rather than attempting to teach the entire field of Data Analytics within a few days.

Learn → Practise → Build → Present → Get Certified

What You Will Learn

During the programme, participants will be introduced to practical areas such as:

  • Organising and preparing data in Microsoft Excel
  • Cleaning inconsistent or untidy datasets
  • Using selected Excel formulas and functions
  • Sorting and filtering data
  • Summarising data with PivotTables
  • Creating appropriate charts and visual reports
  • Interpreting patterns and findings
  • Communicating insights from analysed data

The emphasis is on understanding and application, not memorising Excel commands.

No previous Data Analytics experience is required. Basic computer literacy is recommended.

You Will Complete a Practical Data Project

A certificate alone does not demonstrate that someone can analyse data.

That is why this programme includes a practical project.

After the core training sessions on 28, 29 and 30 September, participants will apply what they have learnt to a guided Excel data analysis task.

On 2 October, participants will return for project guidance, review and preparation. This session will help participants strengthen their analysis and prepare to explain the decisions, methods and findings behind their work.

The programme concludes on 5 October 2026 with a Project Seminar Presentation.

Participants will present their work and communicate the insights they obtained from the data.
